gacchantiha yamalayam
sesah sthavaram icchanti
kim ascaryam atah param
"At every moment countless numbers of living entities are being dragged to the court of Yamaraja (the god of death). But those who are remaining here are thinking that they will live forever. What could be more amazing than this?"
--Mahabharata (Vana-parva 313.116)
Therefore the Srimad Bhagavatam advises us:
tasyaiva hetoh prayateta kovido
na labhyate yad bhramatam upary adhah
tal labhyate duhkhavad anyatah sukham
kalena sarvatra gabhira-ramhasa
"Persons who are actually intelligent and philosophically inclined should endeavor only for that purposeful end which is not obtainable even by wandering from the topmost planet down to the lowest planet. As far as happiness derived from sense enjoyment is concerned, it can be obtained automatically in course of time, just as in course of time we obtain miseries even though we do not desire them."
--Srimad Bhagavatam 1.5.18
We should intelligently heed the above advise and fully dedicate our lives to attain the deathless state of Krishna consciousness by reviving our original eternal spiritual identities as the servants of Krishna. Then death will no longer be fearful for us. It will simply be a stepping stone into our eternal transcendental existence.
